Why do credit card payments show as transfers?

When you buy something on your credit card, that's the real expense — it shows up on your Expenses page under the right category. When you later pay your credit card bill from checking, that's just moving money between your own accounts to settle the debt. If both counted as expenses, you'd be double-counting. So Allocate marks the payment as a "Transfer" and only counts the original purchase as spending.
